Finding A Poodle

The best place to buy a Poodle is from a reputable Poodle breeder!

A reputable breeder tries to produce the ideal Poodle as described in the Breed Standard. Breedings are planned years in advance to produce a sound, healthy dog, excellent in conformation and temperament, one which will be both an ideal show dog and an ideal companion. This breeder has spent much time and effort in study, breeding and selection and their breeding program is based on accumulated knowledge of which dogs to use to produce the best Poodles with health, welfare, confirmation and temperament paramount.

If a breeder does not participate in either confirmation (dog showing), performance (hunting, working, obedience, agility etc), there should be heightened concern and added attention to verifying the breeders ethics and responsibility. If a breeder does not participate in any of the mentioned above then why and what is their purpose of breeding?

What do they know about breeding, the primary focus in breeding is to improve the breed, which requires breeding dogs with correct temperaments, good confirmation structure, soundness and healthy.

Where is their knowledge of selecting the correct dogs to breed together! How much do they know about whelping a litter of puppies and raising them until they leave for their new homes!

When thinking about getting a Poodle ...

You will need to consider what you are looking for...

          -  Puppy

          -  Older Puppy

          -  Young Adult

          -  Older Adult

          -  Senior

Sometimes a Poodle might need to find a new forever home … and there are many different reasons for this ...

Sometimes breeders will have run a promising puppy on for showing only for it to not turn out just how they want so they become available for placing in a family home. Please contact your local breed club who will be more than willing to help guide you.

Sometimes breeders will have an older Poodle looking for a quieter life so will be seeking a family home. If you are looking for something a little older than a baby puppy then please contact your local breed club who will be more than willing to help guide you.

Sometimes breeders have taken back dogs they have bred if the owner is no longer able to look after them. This is what any responsible reputable Poodle breeder would do and those Poodles will be looking for their forever home. This is why you should contact your local breed club because breeders will let their area club know if they have anything available.

If you are unsure of where to start...

ALWAYS START BY CONTACTING YOUR LOCAL BREED CLUB.

Coming along to any Poodle events, for example any of the All-Breed Championship Shows or Breed club shows and meeting people who take part in these events is a good way to touch base with someone you would like to have a Poodle from. See the events menu at the top for forthcoming shows to visit that are near you.

We suggest this because we are trying to educate you into getting a Poodle from a responsible source who has the best interest of Poodles at heart. Not from people who just breed poodles (backyard breeders) for the sake of it! They don't have any interest in anything within the Poodle world other than breeding for money. The majority don't health test to the extent that show breeders do. They are not breeding for confirmation, the health and wellbeing or temperament, they are not researching the dogs they are breeding together and these breeders have zero knowledge of the pedigrees and history of their dogs!
